19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former coach Cervara.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional title, took control to push for a decider.

He rescued four early-game chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
