Tragic News on Cargo Plane Crash: Fatalities Climbs to 13

The tally of fatalities due to the freight aircraft which caught fire and went down has risen to 13, as confirmed by official statements.

Official's Remarks

While en route to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I was informed of a 13th person that died as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” stated the local official in a online message. “My thoughts is with the families, companions and co-workers of all who were lost in this week’s tragedy. We will endure this collectively.”

Deceased Identified

An announcement from UPS identified the flight crew operating the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts reach out to every UPSer who has been impacted and all in our Louisville area – assisting you and ensuring you get the support and assistance you need is our priority,” the company’s communication stated.

Probe Updates

National investigators revealed that the UPS cargo plane’s wing burst into flames and an engine detached soon after departure from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the jet to plummet and burst into a fireball.

The NTSB stated it is probing the aircraft’s maintenance history, which was in Texas for repairs a period before the crash.

Aviation information revealed the jet was on the runway in that location from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are aware that this plane was located in the facility,” said an official on Thursday, without providing a precise date range. “We will look at each aspect of maintenance that was done, even the repair visit, right up to the day of the trip.”

Recovery of Key Components

The pilot’s recorder and flight data recorder were recovered, and the engine was discovered on the runway.

The units – referred to as flight recorders – were built to endure collision damage and severe heat from infernos, and they seemed to be undamaged when located amid the remains. Officials will reviewing information from the devices.

The plane’s concluding flight details indicated an altitude of 475 feet and a rate of 210 mph ahead of the crash.

Repair History

According to FAA documents dated that date, a fracture on a part inside the center wing fuel tank needed fixes.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it provides aircraft servicing for UPS’s aircraft and manages a maintenance center in that city, declined to comment, but expressed it would work closely when relevant authorities approached it.

Services Restart

At the same time, UPS Worldport operations resumed Wednesday night with its express or nighttime procedure, representative Jim Mayer stated. Each of the three runways at the aviation hub were also reopened.

The sorting center in Louisville is the firm’s most significant. The center employs over twenty thousand workers in the area, processes 300 flights per day and sorts over 400,000 parcels each hour.

Community Response

A gathering was held on the evening of 6 November by the regional worker’s group, which supports workers at the aviation hub, the firm’s biggest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which stands for employees, commenced the gathering with a period of reflection at that time, the estimated time of the incident before.

“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the mayor addressed the group of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to each of those who we have lost.”
